The Portugese village of Alcoutim lies on the opposite bank. This means we get twice the usual number of fiestas and events, and more choice of shops, bars and restaurants. Sanlucar has its own shops, bar/restaurants, a doctors surgery, pharmacy, pontoons for boats, and a river beach. There is a zipline from Sanlucar to Alcoutim (see Limitezero webpage) and in Sanlucar facilities to rent kayaks, bicycles, horses, and jet skis. Archery and other activities are also available. There is a ferry to cross the river to and from the two villages which can also be hired for river trips. There are free Spanish lessons in the village. There is a community of talented artists and musicians locally. The fabulous coastal beaches and the town of Ayamonte are approx half an hour by car.
